Why do women spend hundreds of hours on things like silly baby names?

I like names, but I hate the lame made-up ones like "Tier Blake" or "Corren Westly" - what's wrong with naming your baby a name that's both serious and sweet - can you imagine a 50-60 year-old called "Alexia Rain" or "Jewel Harp"?
