Why does my cat eat everything from my sons toys to my daughters pacifiers, and wood?

My cat eats everything. i got him from a shelter and he eats everything even if its not food. He ate my daughters pacifier and my sons books, he took off with one of his stuffed animals. i just think he is a wierd crazy cat.. Any clues?
